Let's Make Friends

2 min read

I was on holiday last week. As well as some books and my Switch I took my crochet tools and some yarn with me, thinking I might do a bit of everything to relax. But something interesting happened. My books and video games went basically untouched, but I finished an entire crochet project.

Why? This was a project of whimsy. I made it entirely for myself, not for work or as a gift. And I was following instructions instead of trying to design something myself, which took away a lot of the pressure of making mistakes. Even when I did make mistakes they were easy to unpick.

When I totted up the time, I spent less than ten hours on it in total. That’s really not that long. Not that much longer than it would take to read a longer book.

So I want to make at least one pattern a month and write about my experience. Like a book club but for crochet projects…a hook club, so to speak.

If I were braver and knew more people who enjoyed crochet I would launch this as a full club. But this is still just an experiment. I know the bar for entry is a bit higher for crafts than it is for reading, so for now I’m happy being the only one doing this. But who knows, maybe one day this could be a fully fledged hook club!

I’ll be updating my website at the start of each month with my progress, so you can go here to see where I am and what I’m making.
