Indiana Moth

Indiana

Made
October 26

Another pattern that made me get the Pica Pau 3 book specifically. The diamond pattern was so intriguing to me, I’d never seen stitches that clean on tapestry crochet so I was determined to learn how to do it. I also love moths, and since it’s autumn now I’m leaning a bit into the witchy vibes that come with it.

New skills

Obviously the jaquard stitching! You can see how it works in this video but it’s wizardry. Doing it in real life, and understanding how all the stitches work together, was an amazing feeling.

I also learned how to do basket stitch around the neck. It’s single crochets all the way around but you alternate with doing them into the next stitch then the stitch from the previous round. And obviously swapping colours between rounds, which was helpful to keep track of where you are in the pattern.

This is the first Pica Pau pattern where I stitched the mouth on with tapestry. There is one in the Horatio pattern I made before, but I skipped over that because I prefered how he looks without a mouth. But it’s so tricky! Making sure it was not wonky took a few attempts but I think it looks fine?

My experience

I loved working on this! It took a few evenings so it felt shorter than the other patterns I’d worked on recently.

I like my colour choices on this one. I very nearly ran out of the different purples but managed to stretch them out to the very end; one of the wings is missing a round of stitches but I think it’s impossible to tell.

As frsutrating as it can be I always enjoy making tiny boots! It took me multiple attempts but I got there in the end.
